Pasag Merapi Preparedness to (Possible) Disaster of Mount Merapi Eruption (Suryo Adi Pramono, 2010)

There was a descrepantion in disaster management of Mt. Merapi eruption in 2006 that have made a problematic relationship between Satlak PB and Pasag Merapi. The two parties that should cooperate one to another in helping the victims of eruption disaster factually were trapped in stereotyping process to win their own vested interest and perspective. They have faced a gap of relational.

Based on this empirical reality in Sidorejo and Tegalmulyo Villages in Klaten Regency, this article will describe these following points: (1) factors that determine the fail of the two parties in establishing the sum of resources among them in facing the eruption disaster; (2) relational process that determines the durable networks and mutual cognition and recognition among the two was failed to be weaved; and (3) format of disaster preparedness that might be combined by the two parties in order to anticipate the possibility of the same threat of disaster in the future.

To describe those points, this article will depart from social science perspective that can be hopefully dialogued to cultural and religious perspective. Data were collected by using ethnopraphic way. The theoretical concept of social (and cultural) capital (Bourdieu) was borrowed to analyse collected data. The result of this research is hoped as an alternative format of disaster preparedness that can be contributed to the two parties and academic discourse on disaster management as well.

Key words: disaster preparedness, social and cultural capital.
